   Twenty-three years old man, Mr. V.V. (Ref. No.-7877), who was young graduate but jobless, anxiously presented with Alopecia, which had affected his beard, abdomen and chest since two and a half years. He had six bald patches of Alopeica areata of 2cm × 3 cm on his beard, 4-5 patches of 1 cm each on chest. He had no bald patches on his scalp. He had taken steroid injections and other external applications in the past without significant relief over the bald spots. Along with Alopecia, he was also suffering from GERD (grade 1) and Acne.  His was an average appetite, was fond of sweets and spicy food. He could not tolerate heat in general. His sleeping patterns were disturbed. He used to have too many dreams, which were distracting him in sleep. His dreams revolved around the daily events taking place in his life. Slightest noise would wake him up. As for his general appearance, he looked very dull and tired. He was a diploma holder in Automobile Engineering. He was stressed about his career. Often, he was found quite anxious about his career. His anxiety would increase when people around him would question him about his career. This would consequently result in depression. He would feel very nervous and anxious before meeting new people. Would get easily irritated. He used to vent out his anger in front of his mother. However, his anger and irritability was suppressed in front of others. He would be constantly thinking about daily happenings. No history of any major illnesses in the past. His paternal grandmother had suffered from hypertension, Diabetes and Epilepsy. Apart from this, there was no history of any illnesses in the family. After a detailed case history, he was prescribed homeopathic medicines. After four months of treatment, there was a considerable reduction in the size of the Areata patches. The beard showed improvement by 60%. There were no new bald patches noticed. Within, the next 6 months of treatment, the areata spots on the chest and abdomen showed considerable changes. The ones on the beard further improved. His symptoms of acidity and acne were relieved to a large extent. The hyperpigmentation on the face also improved. |
