35 year old female, Mrs. M. J. (Patient reference number L8660) reported to our clinic with complaint of hairloss in patches (alopecia areata) since one month. The patches were circular, approx 1 inch x 1 inch in size. She also complained of hair loss (approx 60 hair/day), dandruff and itching on scalp. The quantum of hair on her scalp was gradually reducing. She had similar complaints 3 years back which had improved with ayurvedic treatment. This time too, she had taken ayurvedic treatment for a month, but did not find any improvement.
Her appetite was normal and she had craving for spicy food and aversion to sour things. She had offensive and profuse perspiration. She used to get sound sleep and normal bowel movements. Her menstrual cycles were normal.
She was working as an accountant in a firm and was staying in a joint family. She was short tempered and would get angry soon, and retaliate immediately. She was unhappy as regards her married life, since she would feel that her husband was not as loving and caring towards her, in comparison to his brother who she found was more caring towards his wife. She would frequently have fights regarding this issue with her husband. Also she would compare herself with her sister-in-law and used to feel her in-laws were biased. She had a brooding tendency over past incidents and would cry on remembering them.
There was family history of asthma- her father had suffered from it. There was no other significant family history of any other major illness.
On the basis of above case details, Sepia 200 was prescribed to her. Within two months of treatment her alopecia areata was 50% better. By the end four months of homoeopathic treatment, there was complete re-growth of hair on the alopecia areata patches. Her hairloss had also reduced to about 30 strands per day which is normal. Dandruff and itching on scalp had also reduced to quite an extent. Her treatment was concluded soon thereafter.
Remark: The remedy prescribed in these cases is patient-specific i.e. it has been prescribed based on the symptoms specific to the patient at that point of time. It is advisable that the patient does not indulge in any self-medication. |
